LEXINGTON, formerly Huntingdon, Tenn. - Kevin Hallum Stroup, M.D., 59, of Lexington, Tennessee, died Sunday, December 29, 2024, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital after a prolonged illness.

Kevin was born in Huntingdon on October 3, 1965, to the late Dr. J.C. and Joan Hallum Stroup and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Huntingdon. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Susan Utley Stroup; son, Justin Stroup; stepson, Christopher Story, his wife, Katie and their children, Lincoln, Emery Kate and Claire, all from Lexington. three sisters, Marcia (Andy) Pickens from Nashville, Karen (Mark) Evers from Lexington, Kentucky, and Amy (Brian) Sullivan of Huntingdon; three nieces, Beth (Brad) Moore from Nashville, TN, Leigh Pickens also from Nashville and Lauren (Michael) Carlini from Kansas City, KS; two nephews Benjamin Evers from Lexington, Kentucky and Jacob Sullivan from Huntingdon;.
​Always the overachiever, Kevin achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America, and graduated first in his class from Huntingdon High School in 1983. After high school, he was accepted into the United States Military Academy at West Point. He then attended the University of Tennessee at Martin, graduating in 1987 with a bachelor’s degree (magna cum laude) in Chemistry and Biology. Kevin then matriculated to the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, Tenn. for medical school, graduating in 1991 with a Doctor of Medicine degree followed by a three-year Family Practice residency in Jackson, Tenn.
​In 1994, Kevin began practicing medicine as a physician for the Tennessee Department of Health/West Tennessee. He moved to Lexington, Tenn., in 2001, where he was in private practice for the Jackson Clinic of Lexington, and in 2006, he joined the Henderson County Medical Group, where he practiced until 2023. In addition to his busy private practice, Kevin worked as a part-time emergency room physician from 1992-2021 and served Henderson County as medical examiner for many years. Kevin was a highly personable and caring physician and will be greatly missed by his patients and their families.
​Kevin will be remembered as a loving and gracious husband, father, brother, uncle, 'Grandoc' and friend. Traveling throughout the U.S. was a favorite pastime for Kevin. In addition, he enjoyed many types of music and loved to go to concerts with family and friends.

Other hobbies that Kevin was passionate about included golf and cheering on the Nashville Predators. Christmas was Kevin’s favorite time of the year. He took great delight and enjoyment in collecting ornaments, which he freely gifted to family and friends.

Visitation will be from 4 pm to 9 pm on Thursday, January 2 and from 9 am to 1 pm on Friday, January 3 at Reed’s Chapel Funeral Home in Lexington. Funeral services will follow at 1 pm Friday, January 3, with Dr. Hoyt Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Lexington Cemetery. ​Visitation is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, January 3 at Reed’s Chapel Funeral Home in Lexington.
