Richard Earl Smith died Saturday, November 9, 2024 at the age of 79 in his home surrounded by his family.

Mr. Smith was born April 19, 1945 to Frances and Wilmer Smith. He had a kind and generous spirit. He never hesitated to help others for whatever they needed. He never met a stranger and never forgot a friend. So much so that you could count on him running into someone he knew everywhere he went.

Richard was a man that understood the secret to life is wasting time doing things you like. He liked working with his hands and was known for the work he put into classic cars and Christmas lights. He was an avid collector and liked showing off and sharing his collections with others. He liked sitting on the porch with some coffee and a cigarette. Most of all, he liked to spend time with his beloved wife Patsy, to whom he was married for almost 57 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Russell Smith. He is survived by his wife Patsy Smith, his daughter Wendy (David) Peterson, two granddaughters Rachel Peterson and Ashley (Josh) Hedge, one sister Betty Wilson, one brother Billy Smith, and numerous family and friends who loved him dearly.

Funeral services are  noon Tuesday November 12, 2024 in the Chapel of Dilday Carter Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Concord Cemetery. Brother Mark Peterson and Josh Milam officiating.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday November 12, 2024 at Dilday Carter Funeral Home from 9:00 AM until time of services at 12:00 PM.
