McKENZIE (May 6) — On Tuesday, Carroll County Mayor Joseph Butler delivered a State of the County Address to the McKenzie Rotary Club. Butler explained that Carroll County is in good financial shape and is in the final stages of preparation for presenting the Fiscal Year 2024-2025 Budget. Butler was elected as Carroll County Mayor in 2018.

Criminal Trespass — Gavin Clay Rosson, 25, homeless, was charged with Trespassing at the Country Store on Hwy 70. Deputy Bongiovanni arrived at the country store and spoke to the manager of the store who stated that Rosson had entered the store shirtless, wearing black shorts, and sandals. The deputy then observed video surveillance showing Rosson in the store in the same clothing described by the store manager. Rosson had left the store before Deputy Bongiovanni arrived. The deputy waited for approximately 30 minutes across the street when Rosson showed back up at the store and got arrested for criminal trespass.

Theft of Merchandise — Karen Munkeboe, 72, of Huntingdon, was cited into General Sessions Court for Theft of Merchandise under $1,000 on May 6. Joe Lowe, head of security at Walmart, stated that Munkeboe had taken several plants from the garden center without paying for them. Restitution is due to Walmart in the amount of $66.62.
Carroll Arts to Host Creativity Camp

The Carroll County Arts Council will host its Annual Creativity Camp from June 10-14, 2024. The event is open to elementary and middle school students residing in Carroll County. Activities in music, art, creative writing and drama are the focus.

Lack of Knowledge and Public Input is No Excuse

Under normal circumstances, Thursday’s McKenzie City Council meeting should have revolved around the approval of the fiscal year budget. While there was an unpublicized workshop on the budget, the Mayor’s impromptu directional change of Broadway took center stage. The ordeal of Broadway and antics of Thursday’s meeting have left a bad taste in my mouth for McKenzie Municipal Government.

TENNESSEE (May 13) — Average gasoline prices in Tennessee have fallen 9.7 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.21/g today, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 3,821 stations in Tennessee. Prices in Tennessee are 6.2 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 6.6 cents per gallon higher than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has fallen 4.6 cents in the last week and stands at $3.90 per gallon.
Financial Assistance Available to Forest Landowners, Industry

NASHVILLE (May 14) — The Tennessee Department of Agriculture Division of Forestry (TDF) invites forest landowners to apply for technical and financial assistance to establish or improve their forests. Forest industry members, including loggers, may also apply for assistance to enhance water quality protection and expand harvesting capacity.
