From the Jun 11, 2024 e-EditionDUI-Second Offense — Wendy L. Calderon, 49, Highway 124, McKenzie, was charged with DUI-Second Offense on June 4.
Officer Steven Scott stopped Calderon’s vehicle after the driver failed to maintain her lane of traffic. After extensive field sobriety tests, Calderon was arrested and charged as noted.
Sale of a Controlled Substance — Demarcus Robinson, 34, Walnut Circle, McKenzie, was arrested on outstanding warrants on charges of Sale/Delivery of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was transported to Carroll County Jail.
Domestic Assault — Dante Webb, 35, Forrest Circle, McKenzie was charged with Domestic Assault after he and a family member had an argument and it placed the victim in fear of his life.
Officer Steven Scott responded to a residence where the family member had argued and Mr. Webb had approached the victim with clenched fists and yelling. The victim defended himself. Webb was transported to Carroll County Jail.
Fugitive From Justice — Leonard L. Phelps, 42, Linden Street, McKenzie, was arrested by Officers Dalton Raspberry, Labe Ezell, Jones, and Jackson on June 3. The officers arrived at Linden Street to serve arrest warrants for Criminal Simulation, Parole Violation, Failure to Appear for a case in Virginia. He was transported to Carroll County Jail.
Drug Paraphernalia — Rachel Lynn Lopez, 30, Stonewall Street, McKenzie was charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia on June 4.
Officer Steven Scott stopped Lopez’s vehicle. The driver seemed nervous and on questioning, admitted there was some marijuana in the vehicle. The report indicates a residue was found in her purse and in a glass pipe and jar.
Driving on Suspended License — Alvin U. Travis, 60, Magnolia Avenue, McKenzie,, was charged with Driving on a Suspended License, Light Law Violation, and Violation of Financial Responsibility after a traffic stop on June 5.
Officer Darren Davis witnessed Travis’ vehicle with only one working headlight and initiated a stop at a convenience store. He was cited into court. The passenger also did not have a valid license.
Struck by Train — A Dresden man is dead after being struck by a train in McKenzie around 5:18 a.m. on June 8.
McKenzie Police Officer Timothy Dillon filed a report indicating Christopher Austin Tyler Jackson, 30, of Dresden was laying on the railroad track when he was struck by a train at the intersection of Hamilton Street.
Dillon, Investigator Beauchamp, Sergeant Jones, Patrolman Raspberry, McKenzie Fire/Rescue and EMS responded to the scene. The body was located about six train car lengths back from where the engine was able to stop. The TBI and CSX Railroad police were also requested to make the scene.
McKenzie Police are requesting anyone with additional information to contact the department.

Recovered Property — On April 9, Deputy Verner recovered a firearm that had been located on top of a trash can at a residence on Clarksburg Road after a Republic Services driver reported finding it.
