Motor vehicle theft investigation — On Oct. 1 at approximately 10:59 a.m., Cpl. James M. Boaz responded to TCAT in McKenzie regarding a reported stolen vehicle. According to the report, Joshua Seth Johnson, 33, of Huntingdon, had been in possession of a gray 2017 Nissan Versa since Sept. 26 and refused to return it. The tag displayed on the vehicle did not belong to that car.

The complainant stated she had paid $1,500 for the vehicle.

Trenton Police later notified Carroll County dispatch that Johnson contacted the complainant and stated the vehicle was at an apartment complex in Trenton. Johnson claimed that another individual had since taken the vehicle from him. Trenton officers confirmed the vehicle’s VIN and tag information and advised that the car had been located.

The vehicle was entered into NCIC, and a copy of the report was faxed to the Trenton Police Department.

Aggravated assault on a first responder; evading arrest; reckless endangerment; reckless driving — On Oct. 4, Officer Jeremy D. Smith was patrolling Highway 220 in Atwood when he observed a green sport bike traveling at a high rate of speed toward the 13th Realm attraction. When he attempted to catch up to the vehicle to pace its speed, he noted he was traveling at 80 mph and the bike was still pulling away.

After closing the distance, Officer Smith activated his emergency lights and siren. At that time, the rider, later identified as Dawson Mays, 21, of Milan, intentionally folded his license plate to conceal it and accelerated in an attempt to flee the traffic stop. Speeds reached approximately 120 mph before the pursuit reached the new highway, during which Mays passed another vehicle and nearly caused a collision, placing other motorists in danger.

Mays crossed into Gibson County on Highway 79 before turning back into Carroll County. As he reentered the county, Mays struck Sgt. Ryan Hamilton’s patrol vehicle near Jax Road and came to a stop just past the intersection.

Mays was taken into custody at approximately 9:55 p.m. without further incident. He was evaluated by EMS personnel and transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. Following medical clearance, he was booked into the Carroll County Jail and charged with aggravated assault on a first responder, evading arrest, reckless endangerment, and reckless driving.

Domestic assault — On Oct. 5 at approximately 5:56 a.m., Deputy McClure responded to a residence on Bluebird Lane in Huntingdon after receiving a report of a male subject requesting help. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with a man who was bleeding from the nose and had blood on the left side of his head. The man advised deputies that he had been struck in the face by his stepson, Jason Lynn Keen, 39, of Huntingdon, during an argument.

According to the report, Keen left the residence with his mother following the altercation. Deputies made contact with her by phone, and she stated she was driving Keen to Cedar Grove. She allowed deputies to speak with Keen, who was described as agitated and repeatedly denied doing anything wrong, stating he would not be arrested but would return to the residence to speak with deputies.

Keen later arrived back at the home with his mother. During questioning, she confirmed that she witnessed Keen strike the male victim in the face during an argument but stated the victim had been cursing at Keen prior to the incident. Keen was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Carroll County Jail for booking.

He was charged with domestic assault and later released on a $1,500 bond after signing his Order Granting Bail.

Keen was advised not to have contact with the victim.
