Underage Drinking Citation — On October 11, Deputy Alex D. Sherwood responded to a residence on Terry Road in Huntingdon regarding underage drinking. According to the report, Hank Edward Buckingham, 19, of Humboldt, was among multiple individuals gathered around a campfire in possession of alcoholic beverages. Deputies observed approximately sixty canned beverages in two coolers (Twisted Tea and Michelob Ultra). Buckingham appeared impaired and was uncooperative.

He was cited for underage drinking with a jail book-in date of October 22.

Domestic Assault — On October 11, deputies were dispatched to a residence on McLemoresville Road in Huntingdon regarding a domestic assault in progress. Dispatch advised that the caller reported Randall Dale Jones, 61, of Huntingdon, was highly intoxicated and threatening to shoot members of the household.

Upon arrival, deputies observed Jones standing on the front porch and instructed him to step down. After he repeatedly refused verbal commands, deputies physically removed him from the porch and detained him. Jones appeared highly intoxicated, was unsteady on his feet, and smelled strongly of alcohol.

Deputies spoke with household members who stated that Jones had arrived home intoxicated and began arguing with his father. During the confrontation, Jones reportedly struck his father with a cane before it was taken away.

Family members then locked Jones out of the home, at which time he began threatening to shoot everyone inside.

A check of Jones’s vehicle and nearby camper revealed firearms that he had access to. He was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Carroll County Jail for booking. Jones was charged with two counts of domestic assault.

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia — On October 13, Deputy Alex Sherwood conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for having an illegible registration plate due to wear and damage, as well as failing to maintain its lane of travel. The driver, Westley Dale White, 44, of McKenzie, and a passenger both displayed signs of nervous behavior during the stop.

A K9 unit from McKenzie Police Department conducted a free-air sniff around the vehicle, resulting in a positive alert for the presence of narcotics. During a subsequent search, deputies located a plastic container inside a hooded jacket in the back seat belonging to White. Inside the container were a used glass meth pipe with meth residue, three short makeshift straws containing residue, and a residual amount of methamphetamine.

White was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia with a jail book-in date set for October 23.

Possession of Schedule II (methamphetamine); Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia — On October 12, Cpl. Sean Bongiovanni conducted a traffic stop on a 1997 Ford Ranger on Highway 105 near Mill Road in Trezevant for failing to maintain its lane of travel by crossing both solid yellow lines.

During the stop, the driver exhibited unusually nervous behavior and gave lengthy, inconsistent answers to simple questions. When asked if there were any illegal items inside the vehicle, the driver stated that the passenger, Lloyd Burton Pryor, 45, of Camden, was in possession of methamphetamine and a meth pipe.

Pryor was found to have an active warrant out of Benton County. While effecting the arrest, deputies observed methamphetamine on the dashboard in front of the passenger seat. A probable-cause search of the vehicle revealed approximately 0.6 grams of a white crystal-like substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine, along with a glass smoking pipe containing residue.

After being advised of the evidence found, Pryor admitted ownership of the items and stated he had swallowed most of the methamphetamine in an attempt to get rid of the evidence. He was taken into custody and charged with possession of schedule II (methamphetamine) and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Theft and Vandalism at TDS Telecom — On October 13, Deputy Paul Williams responded to the area of State Route 114 and Vista Lane in Buena Vista regarding a report of theft. According to the report, a TDS Telecom technician stated that a telephone pole had been cut down and approximately 477 feet of telephone line, along with the pole itself, had been stolen.

Upon arrival, Deputy Williams observed that the line had been cut and a section of it was missing. The pole had been cut approximately 18 inches above the ground with what appeared to be a rough-cutting saw, and the grass around the area was matted down. TDS technicians arrived to check for service outages and make repairs.

Deputy Williams later spoke with Bradley Moore, TDS Field Services Manager, who provided an appraisal for replacing the vandalized cable totaling $10,195. The report was forwarded to investigations.

Supplement by Investigator Angel Furr: On the same day, Investigator Furr went to Highway 114 and Vista Lane to meet with the crew and photographed the pole, the cut wires, and the surrounding field. Two unmatched gloves were located — one bright yellow Power Grab Thermo glove and one black-and-tan True Fit glove — along with a trailer taillight cover identified as a Truck-Lite Co. Inc. Model 60700. All evidence was collected and sent to the lab for DNA testing.

The incident remains under investigation.

Fraud Investigation — On October 14, a complainant came to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office to report money stolen from her bank account. According to the report, the complainant showed deputies three separate unauthorized transactions totaling $98.90, all originating from a company identified as Blu Sky Dispatch LLC.

The complainant stated she was unfamiliar with the company and had never done business with them. She advised that she banks with FirstBank and had reported the matter to them after learning her account had been compromised.

FirstBank issued her a new debit card.

Investigator Angel Furr later contacted the bank’s fraud department, which verified that the account had been compromised.

The incident was documented by deputies.
