Drug Charges —  On January 16, Deputy Dustin McClure was conducting criminal interdiction patrol on Highway 79 in Trezevant when he observed a red 2013 Dodge Charger traveling northbound from Main Street. As the vehicle passed his patrol unit, the driver appeared to lean back in the seat in an apparent attempt to conceal himself. Deputy McClure then observed the vehicle fail to come to a complete stop at a posted stop sign near the new construction area past Oak Grove Road.

Deputy McClure initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, who was identified as Anthony L. Massie Jr., 22, of McKenzie. While approaching the vehicle, Deputy McClure detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside. During the encounter, Massie advised there was an item inside the vehicle that did not belong to him.

Due to weather and traffic conditions, Massie was asked to exit the vehicle and was seated in the patrol unit. He later advised Deputy McClure of the location of narcotics inside the vehicle and stated he believed additional narcotics may be present. A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of approximately 27 grams of suspected psilocybin mushrooms and approximately 9.6 grams of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana. Torn pieces of a black baggie consistent with narcotics packaging were also located.

After consultation with another deputy, Massie was released from the scene. The suspected narcotics and related items were logged into evidence for laboratory analysis. This incident occurred in Carroll County.

Driving on Suspended License — On January 18, Deputy Dustin McClure conducted a traffic stop after observing a vehicle with window tint darker than legally allowed.

During the stop, the driver was identified as Monserrat Rodriguez-Serrano, 27, of McKenzie. A check of the driver’s license revealed it was suspended at the time of the stop. No additional violations were noted in the report.

Rodriguez-Serrano was cited for driving on a suspended license. The incident occurred in Carroll County.

Driving on Revoked License — On January 16, Deputy Dustin McClure observed a white SUV parked on a back road with only its parking lights on. As he approached to check on the occupants, smoke was visible filling the interior of the vehicle.

The driver, later identified as Cierra Maxine Kirby, 28, of Atwood, drove away as the deputy approached, with smoke continuing to billow from the vehicle and the odor of marijuana coming from inside. Deputy McClure initiated a traffic stop shortly afterward.

Kirby advised she did not have a valid driver’s license. A check through dispatch confirmed her license was revoked for DUI out of Madison County, with no reinstatement date on file. Kirby was taken into custody and transported to the Carroll County Jail.

A green leafy substance believed to be marijuana was located and destroyed at the scene. The incident occurred in Carroll County.

Drug Paraphernalia Citation — On Jan. 17, Deputy Steven Scott responded to a call regarding a reckless driver in Atwood. Upon arrival, Deputy Scott made contact with a vehicle parked in a driveway and identified the driver as Angela Rae Hartsock, 47, of Atwood.

Hartsock was found asleep in the driver’s seat. After making contact, she gave consent for a search of the vehicle.

During the search, Deputy Scott located a glass pipe with white residue commonly used for smoking methamphetamine inside the glove box.

Hartsock was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia.

ATM Machine Recovered — On January 20, Deputy Dillon Crowe responded to a call reporting an ATM-type machine located in a ditch along Sulphur Springs Road in Cedar Grove.

Upon arrival, deputies identified the machine as an ATI Connect Pacific kiosk ATM. Notifications were made to surrounding counties to determine whether any kiosk machines had been reported missing; however, no theft reports were located.

An alert message was also issued due to the lack of matching reports. The ATM machine was recovered from the scene and transported to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office. The incident remains under investigation.

Identity Theft — On January 16, Investigator Angel Furr took a report regarding identity theft and fraudulent activity involving a bank account.

According to the report, the victim advised that unauthorized changes had been made to banking contact information and that a large sum of money was withdrawn without permission. The victim reported discovering the activity after speaking with the financial institution’s fraud department.

The bank confirmed fraudulent transactions and returned a portion of the funds while the remaining activity continued to be reviewed. The victim also reported the matter to federal authorities, including identity theft reporting agencies.

The incident remains under investigation.
