Felony Evading, Reckless Driving, Driving While Revoked — According to a report by Deputy Daniel J. Thomas, on Sept. 10 deputies attempted to stop a small SUV at the intersection of Highway 424 and Yuma Road in Yuma after the driver failed to stop at a stop sign and nearly entered the roadway. The driver, later identified as Jared Tyler Baugus, 25, of Holladay, sat stationary for several seconds before reversing and pulling beside the deputy’s patrol vehicle. When questioned, he gave inconsistent names and appeared unclear in his speech, leading deputies to suspect possible impairment.
When instructed to pull forward so a traffic stop could be initiated, Baugus accelerated toward Highway 114 and fled at a high rate of speed. Deputies began pursuit, recalling that the day before a similar white pickup had fled a traffic stop in the same area. Video footage from Clarksburg business and a resident’s statement had identified Baugus as the driver in that earlier incident.
Although deputies briefly lost sight of the SUV, they followed dust trails and tracks leading toward Baugus’s residence on Bible Hill Road. With assistance from Benton County deputies, officers found a dark SUV parked near the white pickup from the previous night. The hood was still warm, and fresh tracks in the grass led to the home. Deputies then encountered Baugus exiting the house while drinking from a gallon of milk. He was taken into custody without further incident.
After being advised of his rights, Baugus admitted to fleeing from deputies the night before and claimed he was “being set up.” A records check confirmed his license was revoked for DUI with an interlock restriction, yet the vehicle he was driving did not contain an interlock device. Baugus was transported to the Carroll County Jail and charged with felony evading, reckless driving, and driving while revoked.
Theft of property — According to a report by Investigator Angel Furr, on Sept. 11, deputies were called to the Dollar General Store in Atwood after Timothy Lynn Pugh reported losing his wallet in the parking lot. Pugh described the wallet as brown leather and containing approximately $300 in cash along with multiple credit cards and a bank card. Surveillance footage showed a white male bending down to pick up the wallet before leaving the parking lot in a silver pickup with a female passenger.
Through follow-up investigation, deputies identified the male as Charles Cisco Mann, 73, of Atwood. When confronted, Mann initially claimed he had picked up a pack of cigarettes. After being told the video clearly showed a wallet, Mann later produced the missing wallet but claimed it had been empty. Pugh later confirmed the wallet was his, although the cash and cards were missing.
On Sept. 16 deputies obtained a warrant for Mann’s arrest. He was taken into custody at his residence on Highway 79 and transported to the Carroll County Jail. His bond was set at $2,500. Mann was charged with theft of property.
