From the Oct 22, 2024 e-EditionArrest Warrant —The McKenzie Police Department was advised Mark Thomas of Memphis had warrants in Carroll and Haywood counties. Thomas was located and arrested at 169 Spruce Street in McKenzie. Thomas was then transported to Carroll County Jail.
Driving on Suspended/Revoked License — On October 15, Brandon Hillsman was pulled over on a routine traffic stop on Highway 79 South. It was relayed that Hillsman’s license was revoked. Hillsman was arrested and transported to Carroll County Jail. He was also cited for speeding.
Theft of Merchandise/Burglary/Vandalism — On Thursday, October 17, Thomas Keenan of Pocket’s Gas Station reported cigarettes were stolen from the inventory room. Security footage showed a white shirtless male with tattoos entering the inventory room. The subject, later identified as Melvin Lance Donnell of Greenfield, grabbed a carton of Marlboro Red 72’s, stealing 8 of the 10 packs. Donnell also tore open a microwavable cheeseburger making the item unsaleable.
The approximate value of stolen and damaged items was $74.06.
Driving Under the Influence/Applied Consent/Display of Registration Plates — A vehicle traveling Southbound on Highland Drive was stopped for a plate violation. The driver, Scott D. Carroll of Henry, was advised of the lights being out adjacent to his license plate. It became apparent Carroll had been drinking.
Carroll refused to be administered a horizontal gaze nystagmus exercise, refused to perform any field sobriety exercises and refused to undergo a breathalyzer. Carroll stated, “he was advised by his lawyer to never give consent to anything.”
Carroll was then placed under arrest for driving under the influence. After being read the implied consent law, Carroll refused to consent to a blood sample.
Upon search of the vehicle, officers retrieved an open bottle of vodka leading to the request of a warrant for Carroll’s blood sample. After receiving the warrant, Carroll was transported to Baptist Hospital ER in Huntingdon and still refused to cooperate with officers on providing a blood sample. A blood sample for testing was not performed by the hospital staff as they stated it was against company policy to draw blood without Carroll’s consent.
Carroll was transported to Carroll County Jail.
Possession of Handgun While Under the Influence/Driving Under the Influence/Window Tinting — On Saturday, October 19, Patrolman Dustin McClure observed a silver GMC Sierra turn onto University Drive from Highway 22 with a darker-than-legal limit window tint.
The driver, identified as Jaxon Boswell of Waverly, advised he had just picked up friends who were intoxicated. Ptlm. McClure noticed Boswell’s bloodshot eyes and had an odor of alcohol.
Boswell was asked to exit the vehicle where he then performed poorly on a field sobriety test. On a search of the vehicle, there were multiple open containers of alcohol and two firearms.
Boswell was arrested and transported to Carroll County Jail.
Driving on Suspended License/Drug Paraphernalia/Manufacture Methamphetamines — During a routine traffic stop, Officer Mathew Cunningham discovered that the driver, Tyler C. Johnson of Kenton, was driving on a suspended license.
Johnson gave his consent to allow the search of his vehicle. The search resulted in finding approximately 0.3 grams of methamphetamines and a glass pipe. This led to the detainment of driver and passenger, Bethany L. Johnson. It was learned the passenger had an open warrant in Madison County.
Both were placed under arrest and transported to Carroll County Jail.
Sale of Alcohol to a Minor/Tobacco Offenses by Minors/Underage Driving Under the Influence — Patrolman Dustin McClure initiated a traffic stop. The driver, Rylee Rushing of Camden, had an alcohol odor. The officer noticed the passenger, Jenna Cornelison of Camden, attempting to hide an open beer can. Rushing admitted to having been drinking and performed poorly during the field sobriety test.
Cornelison admitted to drinking six beers with Rushing. Both individuals, aged 20, were also found to have tobacco products in their possession along with 8 unopened beers and two cans with alcohol still inside.
Both were arrested and taken to Carroll County Jail.
Driving on Suspended License/Speeding — On Saturday, October 19, an SUV driven by Herbert Sykes III of Clarksville was stopped for speeding. Upon running the individual’s license, it was learned that Sykes’ license was suspended. Sykes was cited for speeding and driving on a suspended license.
