From the Aug 12, 2025 e-EditionFailure to Appear/Warrant Service — On 08/07/2025, Assistant Chief Trey Boucher located Kenneth Whitson at 59 Walnut Circle. Whitson was arrested for a Capias (F.T.A.) warrant out of Carroll County General Sessions Court (Bond $2500).
Warrant Service — On 08/08/2025, McKenzie Officers were at 169 Spruce Street in an attempt to serve a warrant. Contact was made with a female subject at the residence and asked if Thesia Powers was there. The female stated that Powers was in the back bedroom, asleep. Officers on scene then made entry into the residence and located Powers. Powers was then placed under arrest for her active warrants out of Haywood County General Sessions. Powers was then transported to Carroll County Jail for proper booking procedures.
Burglary — On 08/07/2025, a call came into the McKenzie Police Department regarding a possible burglary and attempted theft on Hamilton Street. Upon arrival, Ptml. Raspberry made entry to the residence with Lt. Brister and Sgt. Davis in an attempt to make sure the residence was clear of unwanted guests. Assistant Chief Boucher made contact around the rear of the residence with an individual who stated that he came to the residence to check on it and noticed that some tools were taken out of the shed and set out as if someone was getting ready to steal them. There were two ratchet sets outside of the shed by the shed door, a rolling toolbox, and a box of assorted tools found by the back gate.
Also located near the front porch of the residence was a purple backpack hidden behind the bushes. Located inside this backpack was a camo colored ghillie suit and some small tools under it. It is believed at the time that someone made an unlawful entry in an attempt to steal these tools and may have gotten spooked off by something. At this time there are no suspects, the backpack was left behind where it originally was, and the address has been placed on Extra Patrol.
Theft — On 08/06/2025, Ptlm. Raspberry, spoke with an individual in the lobby of the McKenzie Police Department regarding a theft that had occurred earlier in the day. He stated he was asleep during the time of the theft but that his Everstart Plus 78 car battery was stolen from his residence on Booker Street in McKenzie, TN. He stated that his roommate advised that a Robert Dean Sweatt Il had come by the residence sometime during the night and then left. A receipt from Walmart was made available as proof of purchase for $109.76.
At the time of this report, McKenzie PD was still looking for him to attempt to recover the stolen battery.
Driving on Suspended/Revoked License —On 08/06/2025, Ptlm. McClure observed Kevin L. Milton traveling North on Highland Dr. in a gold 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis. Having prior knowledge that Milton had a suspended license status, he initiated a traffic stop on the above-mentioned vehicle at Casey’s (16125 Highland Dr.). Milton also did not have his seat belt on during the traffic stop initiation.
Milton did not have a license on his person but did advise that his license was good. Dispatch confirmed the license was suspended out of McKenzie City Court for Failure to File Insurance Certificate. Milton was advised to report to Carroll County Jail to be booked within the 10-day booking period.
Driving on Suspended/Revoked — On 08/06/2025, Ptlm. McClure observed a silver / gray 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis. The vehicle ran the stop sign at Walnut / W O Warren Dr.
A traffic stop on the above-mentioned vehicle at Domino’s Pizza (15660 Highland Dr.) for the above-mentioned traffic infraction. Dispatch advised the license was revoked out of the Tennessee Administration for Failure to Comply with Financial Responsibility.
Alexander was asked if he had insurance on the vehicle, he did advise that at this time, he did not have insurance. Dispatch advised he had prior convictions for not having insurance. Ptlm. McClure requested dispatch to have D&D Towing en route to location. Alexander was advised of his license status and advised the tow.
Michael Alexander was advised of the 10-day booking into the Carroll County Jail for the proper booking procedure on the following: Driving on Revoked (1st) - CITE; Failure to stop at a stop sign - CITE; Financial Responsibility - CITE.
The vehicle mentioned above was towed to the city impound lot pending proof of insurance. Alexander’s license was seized to be returned to the state.
Driving Under the Influence — On 08/05/2025, Officer Henderson observed a White GMC Sierra traveling southbound on TN-22 that appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was initiated. Contact was made with the driver who was identified as Jose Antonio Hernandez Nava via his Mexico ID.
While speaking with Nava, he was observed to have slurred speech, glassy eyes, and strong odor of an alcohol intoxicant coming from his person and vehicle. Nava if he has had any alcohol tonight and Nava stated he had not.The back floor board of Nava’s vehicle were cans of Michelob Ultra. Nava was asked again if he had had anything to drink because I did see alcohol on the floorboard and he stated he had drunk two hours ago.
Nava was requested to exit the vehicle and I asked if he was willing to perform (SFST) Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. Nava did agree to perform (SFST). Nava was very unsteady on his feet when walking to the back of his vehicle. Nava moved to a flat surface to perform the (SFST).
During the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test, Nava performed poorly. During the Walk and Turn test, Nava performed poorly. During the One Leg Stand test, Nava performed poorly.
Nava was placed under arrest for Driving Under the Influence 1st offense. He was then asked to provide a blood or breath sample for chemical testing where he did agree to provide a blood sample. A tow sheet was given to Nava at the jail. Nava was advised by officers that his truck was towed by D&D Wrecker Service to the impound lot.
Following a blood draw at Baptist Hospital in Huntingdon, Nava was transported to Carroll County Jail.
Criminal Trespass — On 08/04/2025, Officer Cunningham responded to Randle St to a verbal dispute between neighbors. Upon arrival, contact was made with the complainant. He stated that his neighbor, Clinton Hoard, was once again in the backyard of his residence. He stated that he had instructed Hoard on multiple occasions not to be on his property. He further stated that when he asked Hoard to leave, Hoard started getting loud and yelling.
Contact was then made with Clinton Hoard. Hoard stated that he was instructed by the property owner not to be there about a year ago, but went on to say that he owned 1.5 acres and that it was his property. Hoard was then cited for criminal trespass and advised he had 10 days to report to the Carroll County Jail for proper booking procedures.
Criminal Trespass — On 08/04/2025, the McKenzie Police Department received a call from The McKenzie Banner in reference to a criminal trespass at 3 Banner Row. The reporting party stated that Clinton Hoard was at this location. Hoard had been served a ban letter for this location by Sgt. Coleman on 07/22/2025.
Sgt. Coleman arrived on scene and observed Hoard standing in the lobby of The McKenzie Banner. Upon contact, Hoard was advised to step outside.
Hoard was placed under arrest at this time. Officer Batchelder transported him to the Carroll County Jail in Huntingdon, TN. Hoard refused to sign the bond accommodation notice and was held without bond per Judge King.
Warrant Service — On 08/05/2025, Officer Burson made a traffic stop on a Black Toyota Camry bearing for window tint. Officer Henderson backed up Sgt. Burson on the traffic stop, approached the passenger side. Officer Henderson asked a male in the passenger seat for his driver’s license. He stated he did not have a driver’s license but provided his name.
He was identified as Kenneth Beckham, Sgt. Burson ran a warrant check. Dispatch advised officers that Beckham had warrants out of Henry county and Milan.
Beckham was placed under arrest. Henry County officers agreed to come to the Henry/Carroll County line to pick up Beckham and transport to the Henry County Jail.
