DRIVING ON SUSPENDED — Michael C. Haynes, Jr., 46, Breezy Loop, Oakland, was charged with Driving on a Suspended License and Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign on August 11.

Patrolman Dustin McClure initiated a traffic stop upon observing Haynes driving in McKenzie, having prior knowledge of his suspended license. He also saw Haynes fail to come to a complete stop at a stop sign.

Ptlm. McClure called for backup when Haynes refused to hand over his license and registration, insisting he had the right to travel. When Haynes gave up his license, Ptlm. McClure verified his suspension status with Dispatch. Haynes said he was unaware of his suspension status.

Haynes was cited into court for Driving on Suspended and Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign. He also received a verbal warning for Obstruction.

DRIVING ON SUSPENDED — Erica J. Armstrong, 31, Everett Street, McKenzie, was charged with Driving on a Suspended License and Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign on August 12.

Having prior knowledge of her suspended license, Patrolman Dustin McClure initiated a traffic stop on Armstrong. He followed her to a safe place for the traffic stop, and he saw Armstrong fail to come to a complete stop at a stop sign.

Ptlm. McClure confirmed Armstrong’s suspended status with Dispatch. He cited her to court for Driving on Suspended and Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign.

DRIVING ON REVOKED — Pedro Guzman, 38, Newsome Street, McKenzie, was charged with Driving on a Revoked License and Light Law on August 13.

Patrolman McClure initiated a traffic stop on Guzman upon seeing that his vehicle’s brake light/running light was not working on the passenger side. Guzman admitted that he did not have a valid license, and Ptlm.

McClure confirmed his revoked status with Dispatch.

Guzman was arrested for Driving on Revoked for D.U.I. and was cited into court for breaking Light Law.

THEFT OF MERCHANDISE — Alexander J. Campbell, 21, Northwood Drive, McKenzie, was charged with Theft of Merchandise on August 13.

Officer Matthew Cunningham responded to a report of a possible theft at a McKenzie gas station. Security footage showed a customer taking and placing three 7Tabs energy pills (valued $6.99 plus tax each) off the store counter into his pocket without paying.

Camera footage showed the suspect’s vehicle, which was registered under Campbell’s name.

Officer Cunningham confirmed the suspect’s identity as Campbell, who later drove himself to the McKenzie Police Department and was cited for Theft of Merchandise.

ASSAULT — Howard E. Plunkett, 47, May Street, McKenzie, was arrested for Assault and Criminal Impersonation on August 15.

Sgt. Tanner Jackson, Ptlm. Dillon and Ptlm. Rembert responded to a situation on May Street after receiving two 911 calls. A victim reportedly told Plunkett to slow down his vehicle because his child was outside. Plunkett, who initially identified as Robert Lee Plunkett, stopped the vehicle and struck the victim several times with a closed fist.

When police arrived, Plunkett admitted his name was actually Howard Emanual Plunkett, Jr. and that he used a false name to avoid a possible warrant in a separate jurisdiction.

ASSAULT — Robert L. Plunkett, 45, May Street, McKenzie, was arrested for Aggravated Assault on August 15.

Plunkett assisted his brother, Howard, with the assaults on May Street. Plunkett struck the initial victim’s mother with the rear of his vehicle after she stepped in to intervene. The two suspects then drove away from the scene.

LEAVING THE SCENE OF AN ACCIDENT — Sherif Terrell Smith, 19, Blake Bottom Road, Huntsville, Ala., was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident (Property Damage) on August 15.

Patrolman Dustin McClure responded to a hit and run that occurred on Wildcat Lane. Security footage captured Smith attempting to leave his parking space. His pickup truck’s passenger side doors and quarter panel struck the vehicle parked in the space beside it, almost removing the front bumper of the victim’s vehicle. Smith drove away and was seen stopping further down the road to assess his vehicle’s damage.

When questioned, Smith denied his involvement but later admitted to being in the accident. He was cited into court for Leaving the Scene of an Accident.

VANDALISM — Patrolman Dustin McClure responded to a call about damages to a personal shed on Hamilton Street. The shed’s lock had been torn from the wall and it appeared someone tried to gain entry through the door knob — which remained locked and intact.

After leaving the scene, the police department received another call that the shed’s rear wall was torn open and three boxes of plates, pots, pans, clothes, blankets and Halloween decor were placed inside.

The case remains open.

VIOLATION OF PROBATION — Steven A. Savoy, 36, Walnut Avenue, McKenzie, was charged with Violation of Probation on August 17.

Officer Dalton Raspberry observed Savoy riding a bicycle on Walnut Avenue. Knowing Savoy had an active arrest warrant out of Weakley County for Violation of Probation, police placed Savoy under police custody. Patrolman McClure transported Savoy to Not Hig’s to meet with Weakley County police.
