Theft — Sergeant Tanner Jackson responded to a call from Main Street N. in reference to a theft on October 7.

The victim reportedly expected a package delivery containing a tenth-generation Apple iPad, valued at approximately $350.00, and return packaging. When retrieving his package, he noticed the weight was inconsistent with what he ordered, and the box’s packing tape was cut. Other than packing material used for shipping, the box was empty.

The victim filed a complaint with UPS and Apple.

Criminal Trespass — Maurice L. Lawrence, 32, was arrested for Criminal Trespass on October 7.

Officer Timothy Dillon reportedly saw Lawrence walking into Casey’s on Highland Drive and asked dispatch to confirm the establishment had an active ban notice on Lawrence, finding out he had been banned since April 2017.

Officer Jackson Henderson arrived at Casey’s and placed Lawrence under arrest for Criminal Trespass.

Light Law — Joshua Ryan Leaver, 35, Paris, was charged with a Light Law violation and arrested for an active warrant on October 8.

Patrolman Jayden Rembert observed Leaver’s vehicle had both taillights out while driving eastbound on Cedar Avenue. When asked to conduct a warrant check on Leaver, dispatch found he had an active warrant out of Stewart County.

Officer Rembert detained Leaver and arrested him on the warrant.

Driving Under the Influence — Luis Martinez Bautista, 46, Springfield, was charged with Driving Under the Influence on October 9.

Officers responded to a hit-and-run crash on Old McKenzie Road, discovering the suspected vehicle fled the scene heading south on Highway 22 toward McKenzie. Officers stopped the fleeing vehicle, driven by Bautista, on Highland Drive.

Bautista admitted to colliding into a vehicle and said he fled the scene due to a lack of insurance and an expired driver’s license. Officers on the scene reportedly smelled alcohol on Bautista’s breath and person, and Bautista said he had three beers.

Officers administered SFST and HGN testing, and Bautista was unable to follow instructions or complete each element’s tasks. Officers searched Bautista’s vehicle and found four open beer containers, one of which was still cold to the touch.

Bautista was arrested for suspicion of DUI. He also received citations for Financial Responsibility, Expired Driver’s License and Hit and Run.

Signaling a Turn — Sergeant Steven Scott stopped driver Scotty Hughely, Gleason, for failure to use a turn signal on October 11. Officer Scott identified the car’s passenger as Timothy Scott Hickey, 36, Brighton, who had an active warrant out of Carroll County.

Officer Scott placed Hickey under arrest for the active warrant. He also discovered some traces of a white crystal substance that field-tested positive for meth in the driver’s seat.

Hughely reportedly stated Hickey had meth on his person and provided a sworn statement that he saw meth and some weed in Hickey’s hand prior to exiting the vehicle.

Driving Under the Influence — Thomas Robert Davidson, 34, McKenzie, was charged with Driving Under the Influence and Speeding on October 12.

Officer Jackson Henderson initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle, driven by Davidson, traveling northbound on Highland Drive after it reportedly drove 62-mph in a 40-mph zone.

Davidson reportedly had slurred speech and glassy eyes, and Officer Henderson observed several Modelo beer bottles in the passenger floor and one beer bottle in the passenger seat.

Davidson said he drank four or five beers a few hours beforehand. Officer Henderson asked Davidson to perform the Standardized Field Sobriety Test, during which he reportedly performed poorly and began yelling.

Davidson was charged with Driving Under the Influence - First Offense ($2,500.00) and was cited for Speeding.
