Burglary, Theft — On May 20, 2024, an individual came to McKenzie City Hall regarding several thefts from his residence on Magnolia Avenue. The victim stated that his shed behind his residence had been burglarized several times over the last few months but he was unsure of how many times.

Tools listed as stolen were two Kobalt stepladders, a jack, corded sawzall, pressure washer, hammer drill, ratchet set, chargers and batteries, jumper set, jump box, socket set, chainsaw, splitting maul, pipe wrench, table saw, weedeater, work boxes, power tool set with batteries and chargers, wood clamps, corded hammer drill, compressor hoes, and extension hoses. The estimated value of the missing property was $4,800.

The individual was advised to set up security cameras around his residence to prevent future thefts. The MPD will add extra patrol in the area.

Disorderly Conduct — Officers responded to a call to Walgreens that a customer, Kristin Strong, 33, Paris, Tenn., was screaming at the store personnel. Strong stated someone broke into her house in Paris and changed the deed of her property and put a new TN driver’s license in her wallet that she did not order online.

Strong added that she was trying to get information at Walgreens in Paris and McKenzie. Walgreens wanted Strong banned from the property so Strong was advised she was banned from McKenzie Walgreens and was served with a banned notice that she signed.

Driving on Suspended/Revoked License, Lights-Motor Vehicles, Financial Responsibility — Kevin Jones, 36, McKenzie, was stopped for having a nonworking tail light. Upon approaching the vehicle, Officer Dustin McClure was advised by Jones that he did not have a valid license or insurance on the vehicle. Dispatch did verify the information.

Jones was cited with Driving on a suspended license, light law, and financial responsibility. He was advised of the citations and was made aware of the 10-day booking process. Jones agreed to turn himself in at Carroll County Jail for the proper booking procedure.

The passenger advised she was buying the car and had not purchased insurance yet and had already been stopped before for not having insurance. The passenger’s license was valid and was allowed to drive the vehicle away from the stop.

Vandalism — On May 23, 2024, officers responded to the residence on Brawner Avenue in McKenzie. Upon arriving at the residence, officers made contact with the victim who was standing in the living room by the front door. She stated she arrived home to find the front door open.

Officers cleared the residence of any possible intruders. Damage was observed and the victim was advised to get an estimate on the property damage.

Possession — Wendy Huddleston, 48, McKenzie, was arrested at a residence on Walnut Avenue in McKenzie. Huddleston had an active warrant out of Carroll County Circuit Court with the original charges being two counts of possession of methamphetamine.

Huddleston was transported to Carroll County Jail for booking.

Disorderly Conduct, Public Intoxication, Assault/Aggravated Assault against a First Responder — Derek Williams, 34, Bolivar, Tenn., was charged with disorderly conduct, public intoxication, simple assault, and aggravated assault and booked into Carroll County Jail.

Officer Dustin McClure responded to a call to Maria’s Mexican Restaurant of an unruly patron, Derek Williams. Officer McClure learned that Williams had assaulted two staff members and was then asked to step outside the establishment. Williams was placed under arrest for disorderly conduct and public intoxication.

Williams advised that he was a threat to himself and needed to go to the psych ward. Williams became increasingly irritated and tried to exit the patrol car. He continued to kick and try to force his way out of the vehicle.

Upon being warned of being tased, Williams advised he wanted to be tased. Officer McClure holstered the taser and continued to attempt to control Williams. While attempting to push Williams completely into the patrol vehicle, Officer McClure was kicked in the left shoulder and received a glancing blow to the head.

Patrolman Dillon arrived on the scene and advised that staff members of Maria’s stated Williams entered the restaurant with alcohol from a different establishment. He was told he could not bring the alcohol. Williams sat down at a table where he became irate and started yelling at other patrons and staff. A staff member attempted to move Williams’ cans of alcohol but Williams grabbed his arm and attempted to take the alcohol back.

Patrolman Dillon stated he observed a green package that was for a two-pack of Hidden Hills 500mg THC gummies. He stated the package was open and one gummy was sitting on the table. Along with the gummies, an empty can of peach margarita was sitting on the table as well.

Public Intoxication, Disorderly Conduct — Rodger Dale Lawson, 34, McKenzie, Tenn., was placed under arrest for public intoxication and disorderly conduct following an incident on North Highland. Sergeant Cody Coleman was advised of an intoxicated male walking in front of City Wine and Liquor.

Sgt. Coleman observed the man, Lawson, walking unsteadily on his feet and making erratic movements. While talking with Lawson, his words were slurred and his talking was irrational. Lawson stated he was not under the influence of alcohol or narcotics. While standing in front of McDonald’s, Lawson kept yelling at people entering the establishment’s driveway.

He then walked away from officers and snuck up behind a female while she was ordering through the drive-thru.

Lawson was placed under arrest and transported to Carroll County Jail.

Vandalism — An individual informed Sgt. Cody Coleman that his utility pole located on a trailer at Brooks Storage on Kencidot Street had been stripped of its copper. Security footage provided showed a white male with long hair and tattoos on his face and arms. The individual was not able to be identified at the time.

The incident is currently under investigation.

Violation of Probation — On May 24, 2024, Officers responded to Spruce Street to serve a warrant on Casey Chesser. Chesser had an active warrant out of Weakley County Circuit Court for a violation of probation.

A tan Nissan Altima, matching the description of Chesser’s vehicle, was attempting to back out of the residence. Officers stopped the vehicle in the driveway. A large knife was visible in Chesser’s lap. He was given verbal commands to show his hands and complied with officers. Chesser was taken into custody without incident and transported to Weakley County Jail in Dresden.
