From the Aug 20, 2024 e-EditionJuvenile Flees Police — A juvenile male was arrested and transported to Carroll County Jail after he was driving 94 miles per hour in a 45 miles per hour zone on August 15.
Officer Dustin McClure said the juvenile, with a female passenger, attempted to evade police and drove at excessive rates of speed to avoid arrest. Officer McClure radioed Carroll County Sheriff’s deputies to request a roadway spike deployment to stop the vehicle by flattening its tires. However, the male juvenile turned into McKenzie High School, where there was only one entrance and outlet. Officer McClure radioed Patrolman Cunningham of his location and McClure blocked the roadway with his patrol car. The male juvenile’s vehicle continued toward McClure, who was standing outside the patrol car. McClure unholstered his service weapon and held it in the low, ready position. The juvenile continued toward the officer, stopping only two feet from him and one foot from the patrol car.
The driver was arrested and the female passenger was released after providing information about the incident. The female told officers she was in fear for her life.
The driver was charged with Reckless Driving, Evading Arrest, Reckless Endangerment, Speeding, Violation of Window Tint, and Violation of Financial Responsibility. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
DUI — James S. Anderson, 43, Tennessee Street, McKenzie, was charged with DUI, Possession of a Handgun Under the Influence, Simple Possession on August 13.
Officer Steven Scott was dispatched to the intersection of Highway 22 and Como Street where a car was parked partially in the road and the driver was asleep at the wheel. Officer Scott found Anderson in the driver’s seat with the vehicle still in drive. Anderson was asked to step outside the vehicle and perform a field sobriety test. He was arrested for DUI-First Offense, and for having a firearm while intoxicated. The firearm was laying on the seat next to him. The officer found a crystal-like substance believed to be meth and six Adderall pills, and another powder believed to be cocaine. The arrest was made in the Henry County portion of McKenzie.
Reckless Driving — Patricia Watwood, 44, Hawkins Creek, Huntingdon was charged with Reckless Driving on August 13.
Officer Steven Scott witnessed Watwood’s vehicle with a display of plate violation and attempted to stop the vehicle as the driver, Watwood, sped along city streets in an effort to avoid being stopped. She was charged with Reckless Driving.
Public Intoxication — Linda S. Hood, 42, Linden Street, McKenzie was charged with Public Intoxication on August 12.
Officer Dalton Raspberry received a dispatch about a woman in downtown McKenzie at Veterans Park who seemed under the influence. Raspberry located Hood, who admitted to using Meth. A field sobriety test was administered and Hood was arrested on the charge.
