From the Sep 24, 2024 e-EditionDomestic Assault — Darek Lewis, 39, Jackson Street, Martin, was charged with Assault, Domestic Assault, and Aggravated Burglary on September 21.
Officer Darren Davis filed a report that Lewis forced his way into his ex-girlfriend’s house, went to the room where she was in, assaulted a male in the room, and made her fear for her safety. Lewis left the house and was apprehended in Dresden. Weakley County also had an active warrant for Failure to Appear. Because the children were in the McKenzie home at the time, the matter was referred to the Department of Children’s Services.
Five Face Drug Charges — Five persons were charged on September 22 after their car was stopped at 3:15 a.m. for an inoperable headlight.
The following are facing charges: Zaren K. Cole, 19, Autumn Valley Drive, Jackson; Raekwon D. Dodd, 19, Archwood Street, Jackson; a juvenile; Ronyaunus L. Tharpe, 19, Sebastian Drive, Jackson; and Deshun L. Thaxter, 19, University PK, Jackson.
Officer Dustin McClure made the traffic stop on North Highland Drive. The officer indicated he could smell marijuana and questioned if marijuana was in the car. He was told there was none. One occupant indicated there was a gun between the driver’s seat and the center console. Each of the occupants exited the vehicle one by one as the officer checked for weapons.
A concealed Glock pistol was found in the waistband of Dodd, who had previously indicated he did not have a weapon. At that point, the officer detained all the subjects.
During the search of the vehicle and occupants, 45.2 grams of marijuana, digital scales, THP vape, and two pistols - one stolen, were located.
Tharpe was charged with Possession of Schedule VI, Possession With Intent to Go Armed, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Violation of the Light Law.
Dodd was charged with Possession of Schedule VI With Intent, Possession With Intent To Go Armed; Possession of a Stolen Firearm; Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Thaxter was charged with Possession of Schedule VI With Intent; Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Cole was charged with Possession of Schedule VI With Intent, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Reid was charged with Possession of Schedule VI With Intent, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
All were transported to Carroll County Jail and the car was seized.
$740 in cash was also seized.
Possession of Weapon by Felon — Marquise R. Tharpe, 37, Cooper Street, Paris was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Sale/Delivery of a Controlled Substance on September 17.
Officer Dustin McClure stopped Tharpe’s vehicle after the driver failed to stop at a stop sign. The officer indicated he could smell marijuana and asked if there any remaining in the vehicle. Tharpe replied there was a small amount. When asked if there was a weapon, Tharpe said his friend’s gun was in the vehicle.
Tharpe was asked to exit the vehicle as MPD searched it. MPD found five cell phones, $1,800 cash, a pistol, marijuana, rolling papers, grinder, rolling machine, 13 grams of marijuana roaches and Fentanyl pills.
Violation of Order of Protection — Roger Dale Lawson, 34, Florida Avenue, McKenzie was charged with Violation of an Order of Protection on September 17.
Officer Matthew Cunningham responded to Relax Inn, Highland Drive, where Lawson was pacing outside a female’s room. She had phoned the police to report Lawson, since she had an order of protection against him. Lawson was transported to Carroll County Jail.
Theft of Merchandise — Crystal Mealer, 49, Main Street, McKenzie was charged with Theft of Merchandise on September 19.
Officer Dalton Raspberry was dispatched to E.W. James, where Mealer was attempting to exit the store without paying for three plate lunches.
Simple Possession — A juvenile was cited into court after he was stopped for operating a vehicle with no headlights illuminated on September 17.
Officer Darren Davis stopped the vehicle, could smell marijuana and asked the driver and passengers if they smoked marijuana. All answered no prior to the driver indicating there was a small amount. A search revealed seven grams of a green-leafy substance believed to be marijuana. The drover was cited into court on charges of Simple Possession of Schedule VI.
Dog Running At Large — Mildred Janice Walker, 54, Florida Avenue, McKenzie was charged with allowing her Dog to Run At Large after the dog reportedly bit a young man, who was riding a bicycle.
Officer Dustin McClure filed the report after the boy was attempting to flee from the dog. He jumped from his bicycle and was bit as he attempted to enter his home. The family of the boy sought medical attention for the dog bite. The incident occurred on September 20.
Oustanding Warrants — Ryan O’Rourke, 40, Walnut Circle, McKenzie, was arrested on two outstanding warrants after a caller reported a suspicious person in the May Street area on September 18.
Officer Aaron Lyons responded to the area, found O’Rourke, who matched the caller’s description, and learned of the outstanding warrants in Weakley County of Failure to Appear in both Weakley and Obion counties. The subject was transported to Weakley County Jail.
