Drug Violation — According to a report made on January 23 by Deputy Townes, he initiated a traffic stop on a gray Hyundai for failure to maintain lane. Once he spoke to the female driver, he noticed that she was nervous and she advised that the passenger, Timothy Coffman, 49, of Jackson, was the cause for her nervousness. She said she didn’t know where she was and was trying to get to Perry County. She gave her driver’s license, but Timothy refused. The driver stepped out of the vehicle and dispatch confirmed Timothy had a warrant outside of Madison County. Timothy had a small baggy of meth in his pocket and in the car near where he was sitting. He was transported to jail for possession of methamphetamine.

Simple Assault — According to a report made on January 20, Deputy Crowe received a call about a domestic. During the investigation, Deputy Crowe spoke to Shannon Butler, 52, of Atwood and Lisa Mathis, 49, of Atwood. Mr. Butler stated that he confronted Lisa asking her to leave. Mr. Butler then stated that Ms. Mathis got mad and started hitting him in the face. Butler says he then pushed her onto the bed, which she rolled to the floor. Mr. Butler had several scratch marks on the right side of his head and a busted lip. Ms. Mathis stated that they started arguing when he asked her to leave. She said Butler pushed her down, dragging her across the floor and punching her in the face. There was no significant marking on Lisa to prove her statement. This led the deputies to believe that Ms. Mathis was the aggressor by punching Mr. Butler in the mouth and scratching his face.
