Driving on Revoked License — Wesley Randal Walters, 33, Bruceton, was charged with driving on a revoked license December 11.

Deputy Steven D. Scott reported stopping a vehicle on Highway 424 in Yuma after learning the registered owner’s license was revoked for DUI.

Deputy Scott made contact with the driver, identified as Walters. A records check confirmed Walters’ driver’s license had been revoked for DUI and remained revoked at the time of the stop.

Walters was arrested and charged with driving on a revoked license, first offense. The incident occurred in Carroll County.

Felony Evading — Hunter Lee Walters, 20, South Fulton, was charged with felony evading, reckless driving, two counts of reckless endangerment, underage possession of alcohol and open container on December 13.

Cpl. Daniel Thomas reported he was stationary in a marked patrol vehicle with emergency lights activated near the intersection of Providence Cemetery Road and Highway 220 in Cedar Grove when he heard a single gunshot from an unknown direction. Approximately 30 minutes later, Thomas observed a sedan approach the stop sign at Old Lavinia Road and Highway 220. The vehicle, which appeared to be a Nissan Altima, turned eastbound. Due to the time and location, and because the vehicle’s direction of travel was unusual, Thomas followed the car to observe it further.

As Thomas approached, the vehicle accelerated away. Due to hilly terrain, he was unable to confirm speed until cresting a hill, where he observed the vehicle traveling at approximately 80 mph, with the distance between the vehicles increasing. Thomas activated emergency lights to attempt a traffic stop for speeding, failure to maintain lane, reckless driving and possible impaired driving, and observed the vehicle’s brake lights illuminate in front of him. When it became clear the vehicle was attempting to flee, dispatch was notified and pursuit continued.

The vehicle turned onto Hickory Flat Road and accelerated again after clearing nearby residences. Thomas closed distance and approached the end of Hickory Flat Road, initially believing the vehicle had crashed. The car had driven off the left shoulder into the yard of a residence on Hickory Flat Road and stopped in the driveway. Thomas exited, drew his service weapon and issued commands. The driver opened the door and was instructed to throw the keys out, then advised the keys were in his pocket and asked if he could retrieve them. Thomas instructed him to keep his hands up, but the driver stepped out with one hand still in his pocket. Thomas then approached, grabbed the driver, turned him around and placed him against the vehicle as another officer applied handcuffs.

The driver was identified as Hunter Lee Walters. Thomas reported observing a long rifle located between the front passenger’s legs and the center console. All passengers were removed without incident, and two additional rifles were located on the rear seat. Thomas also reported the vehicle emitted a strong odor of alcohol, with a spilled beer can near the rear passenger’s feet, several empty alcohol bottles in the rear seat and floorboard and loose rounds of ammunition on the rear seat.

Walters was advised of his Miranda rights, declined to make a statement and refused standardized field sobriety tests. Walters was arrested and charged with felony evading, reckless driving, two counts of reckless endangerment, underage possession of alcohol and open container.

Traffic Citation — Daisy L. West, 43, McKenzie, was cited for violation of the Move Over Law on December 10.

Deputies were directing traffic at the intersection of Highway 79 and Main Street in Trezevant following a two-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck that was blocking the intersection.

Deputy Heather Townes and Deputy Bo Ezell had arrived on scene and activated emergency lights while awaiting the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Deputy Ezell was in the process of making contact with the semi-truck driver to have the vehicle moved when witnesses approached to provide information about the crash.

While speaking with witnesses, Deputy Townes heard Deputy Ezell yelling for a vehicle to slow down and observed a black Lexus traveling through the intersection at a high rate of speed for the road conditions. Deputy Townes left the crash scene and initiated a traffic stop.

After the vehicle stopped, the driver, identified as Daisy L. West, exited the vehicle and approached the deputy in an aggressive manner. West stated she intended to explain what had happened and claimed she believed she was being signaled to proceed through the intersection. She later admitted she became upset when people began yelling.

West continued to be argumentative and intrusive during the traffic stop and jerked the deputy’s pen and citation book from her hands when asked to sign the citation.

Deputy Ezell later confirmed that the individual at the intersection was signaling for traffic to slow down and yelling for vehicles to slow, not to proceed. West failed to slow down and failed to stop at the stop sign.

West was cited for violation of the Move Over Law.

Driving on Revoked — On December 10, deputies observed a disturbance on Jones Street in Huntingdon involving a gray Ford F-250. According to the report, the driver was yelling at another person from the vehicle before entering the truck, backing into the roadway and leaving the area in a reckless manner while spinning the tires.

Deputies stopped the vehicle at the intersection of Murray Lane and Mebanewood Street. The driver was identified as Zachariah Wayne Wilson, 38, of Huntingdon. A check of his driver’s license showed it was revoked due to a prior DUI. The truck was displaying Texas license plates, which did not return to the vehicle when checked.

The incident was handled by deputies, and the case was closed following the arrest.
